FIRST PROJECT WAS IMPLEMENTED IN 1994

The first Project named "Help for Elders and Sick" was implemented in 1994. Ever since then, thanks to good organization and quality work of the contributors in the Project, "La Benevolencija" has been constantly active in the cooperation with other international organizations under the implementation of this humane project. 

FINANCED

MISSION LOCALE DE STRASBOURG, using the funds under the ECHO/YU/B7-214/96/0144 AS , financed the "Help for Elders and Sick" Project in Sarajevo region from January to April 15, 1996. The project covered 200 abonents age over 65.

Providers of services - 25 capable women, age 20 to 50, took care of and helped elders in facing their living difficulties.

Following April 15, 1996, the "Help for Elders and Sick" Project existed as a voluntary project, all up to June 30, 1996.

On July 01, 1996, "Help for Elders and Sick" in Sarajevo region got financial support from UKJAID. The approved funds allowed the project to continue for the next 15 months.

At the moment, the Project helps 287 elders age over 65. They are helped by 25 capable women - service providers. All the ladies - participants in the project - were left unemployed at the beginning or during the war so that the project remains a sole source of income for them.

HELP FOR ELDERS AND SICK - GRBAVICA

Following actualization of humanitarian projects at the reintegrated areas, MISSION LOCALE DE STRASBOURG approved the "Help for Elders and Sick - Grbavica" Project for the period July 15, 1996 - March 15, 1997. This Project covered 130 people in Grbavica, age over 65, single or married couples, looked after by 15 capable women - service providers - also inhabitants of Grbavica. Within this project, a small budget was approved, used as a contribution in purchase of EKG machines for our Medical Service.

HIGH PERCENTANGE OF PEOPLE OVER 65

As Sarajevo is a city with a high percentage of people over 65 years old, therefor "La Benevolencija" was not able to help all those who addressed it for such help.

These projects offered human help to old and sick people and this made their lives, otherwise hard, bearable.

"La Benevolencija" or Department for Care over Elders and Sick" hope that the year of 1997 will bring enough donors to support this action.

OUR FRIENDS FROM NETHERLANDS

There are two more important facts to be added here: end of 1996, our friends from Netherlands acted as co-financiers for this program and Mrs. Hilly Timmner occasionally visited Sarajevo during entire 1996 as a person who unselfishly transferred her knowledge of this field onto the participants in the program. Thanks to Mrs. Timmner, this program gained a lot on quality and expertise.
